What in the World Have We Been Doing?

In past years I have posted about the major events in our lives, complete with several pictures. I'm not sure what's happened, except to say I am meeting myself coming and going and "ain't nobody got time for that!" So, here's a little recap starting around the end of March.

WILDWorship performed in Sunday morning services
(I'm at the piano, just to the right of this photo.)

Grace Prep hosted the Jon Drummond Relays.
I handed out awards on the track and lost my voice for a week!

Saw Mary Poppins with Barb at Music Hall in Dallas

Celebrated "Night of the Arts" and Abigail's accomplishments in drawing

Prom

Dyed eggs with KoolAid

Spent Easter with guests Barb and Brodie

Rebecca won Girlfriend of the Year for Hudson's Minecraft Cake

Rebecca was awarded the Tillie Burgin Student Leader Award

Scavenger Hunt for Becca's 18th Birthday

Traveled to A&M Corpus Christi for a college visit

Grace Prep Awards Banquet at DBU

Traveled to Nacogdoches for Katherine to be awarded the Cole Dean's Award in Art

Abigail accompanied her friend, Mallory, at the Grace Prep talent show

Rebecca planned and RAN the talent show!

Rebecca won gold, silver and bronze medals at the District Track Meet, qualifying for the Regional Meet in May.

Rebecca participated in a Journalism conference at UT Austin.

There's only one conclusion to be drawn from these photos: We are super busy parents with extremely talented kids! I will post more track happenings after the regional meet in Abilene on Thursday. Or, I might wait until the end of June and give you the next few months' busy recap. Stay tuned.

Before School Photo - Day "I Have No Idea"

Here's another photo to add to my scrapbook page I'm going to do one day of all the days before school pics I've taken. Unfortunately, I have no idea what number day of school this actually is. I do know, however, that it was taken on Rebecca's 18th birthday, so when such a time comes that I make a scrapbook page, I'll be able to figure it out.

Love my cuties in their uniforms, but I know Becca is counting down the days until she has to wear them no more! I can almost predict that her official uniform for college will be Nike shorts and tshirts. Sadly, I won't have photos to prove it. College students frown on their moms coming down and taking a picture of their first day of school. I can't imagine why!

Garden Update

I'm sure you've been dying for a garden update, haven't you? Since I'm a newbie at this, I'm not sure what I would call success at this time, but it does actually look like a REAL garden, so guessing that's good.  I can guess from the size of plants that it's going to be a really good year for zucchini and tomatoes, but maybe not so much for cucumbers.

Zucchini

Going to have to Google why the leaves are turning white on the cucumbers

On the floral side of things, here comes the wisteria...

...and the roses look great...

...and these purpley cone-shaped flowers always look lovely.

How does your garden grow?

Apparently, I'm a Mushroom Farmer

I don't know what we did to make so many mushrooms grow in our garden, but MY GOODNESS the mushrooms!  Almost every morning I have to remove countless fungi from the garden. I really think if I went out at night I could sit and watch them grow. There have been about 5 different kinds and here are a few photos of them here.

This was an especially large batch that grew overnight. Jeff said it creeps him out to just look at this picture. Not sure why. I went out and pulled them all up, so he didn't even have to touch them!

Too bad they're not edible. I mean, I guess they're not. I'm certainly not going to risk it. On the "real" food front, the rain has accelerated the growth of the other plants and it won't be long before we're finding some blooms and veggies on them. I hope. What do I know? I'm just a successful mushroom farmer.

Grace Prep Prom

Here are just a few of the many photos I took at the Grace Prep prom. I know I am biased but Rebecca was the most beautiful young lady there. And, Hudson was a very handsome date.

Rain Is A Good Thing

It's amazing what a couple days of even a little rain can do. The last two mornings my plants seem to have grown by inches overnight. If I can keep the squirrels out (wow, big shocker, I have a squirrel problem...please read this in a deadpan voice)  we might actually be eating fresh vegetables this summer. Here's a quick peek at what's happening in the garden this week.

New jalapeno plant to replace the one which was frozen in the cold snap last week

Green Beans!

Squash

Cucumber

Zucchini

3 tomatoes: cherry, one that was killed by cold snap, new one just planted

Spinach

Lettuce

It's going to be exciting to see the progress over the next few weeks. I'm not a farmer yet, but I'm heading in the right direction.
